We had the opportunity to collaborate with a couple who, committed<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the creative process, requested the design of a vacation home located in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">magnificent landscape of the Douro Valley. The client wanted to renovate the small<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">existing house and build a new villa.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The property required a flexible vacation home program, capable of adjusting to<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changes in the duration of stay, the seasons, and the number of occupants. The<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new intervention should not compromise the view enjoyed from the existing<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">structure, which influenced its placement. Minimal interference with the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">topography was also desired, leading us to find fa\u00e7ade and roof solutions that<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would blend with the surrounding environment.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the existing structure, we proposed creating a large living space that takes<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">advantage of the view and the existing swimming pool. The second building,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intended as the main residence, is developed independently. The ground floor<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">features the dining and kitchen areas, and the second floor the bedrooms.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new proposal opens up to the river and is integrated with the natural slope of<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the land, following the contour lines, allowing for a wider view of the Douro River.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exterior treatment of the building highlights its integration with the surrounding<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">environment. For the exterior cladding, it was decided to use concrete with a<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brown pigment, and the roof was designed with a garden area, creating a visual<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and ecological continuity with the surroundings.
