Multifamily Housing Architecture Project – Coimbra

A residential building integrated into the city

Located close to Coimbra’s city centre, this multifamily residential building establishes a calm relationship with its urban surroundings. Arranged over three floors and comprising nine apartments, the development balances residential density, privacy and spatial quality within a carefully scaled volume.

Natural light organised around a courtyard

The building’s layout responds to the specific conditions of the site: it opens towards the south, maximising natural light, while the construction to the north completes the existing party wall and restores continuity to the urban frontage. At its centre, a courtyard brings natural light and ventilation into the communal circulation areas, transforming these transitional spaces into a meaningful extension of the residential experience.

Landscaped terraces and shared green spaces

Each apartment benefits from a landscaped terrace, conceived as an extension of the interior and a private place of connection with the outdoors. At a collective level, a generous green area provides a space for gathering and retreat, strengthening the presence of nature in residents’ daily lives.

Passive strategies for lasting comfort

Solar orientation, natural light and ventilation, together with the integration of passive energy-efficiency strategies, form part of a holistic approach to comfort. More than bringing together nine residential units, the building seeks to create an enduring way of living in which architecture, landscape and well-being coexist naturally.
