Fonte Santa Hotel

The Hotel Termas de Fonte Santa is located in an unspoilt countryside area a few meters from the Fonte Santa Thermal Baths and just two kilometers from the historic center of Almeida.

The client is determined to combine exclusivity with sustainability, integrating the project into the surrounding landscape. There is no doubt that the landscape on the slopes of the Côa River can only be maintained by preserving its rugged beauty.

The challenge posed to MJARC was to design a hotel with approximately 4000 square meters that would maintain the natural setting.
In response to this challenging program, MJARC designed the entire hotel development as a displacement of the existing site, of green replicating the natural landscape.

At the same time, an analysis of climate, temperature, precipitation, wind and solar incidence was carried out for the use of passive cooling strategies in summer and passive heating in winter. The building was developed to maximize efficiency, ensuring a constant dialogue between the interior space and the surrounding landscape. The result is a permeable building
where the boundaries between interior and exterior fade, where the materials used wood and shale merge with the landscape.

The future unit aims to provide a full experience, an architecture that merges with the surroundings.
